Seasonal variations in the biochemical composition of the serum of Mytilus galloprovincialis Lmk

چکیده
The levels of carbohydrate and protein in the blood serum of mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis Lmk.) experimentally cultured at two depths in Galicia (NW Spain) were determined over a period of 1 year. The changes in concentration of total and reducing carbohydrate and protein exhibited an annual cycle; their values varied from 0.053 to 0.700 mg/ml, from 0.050 to 0.669 mg/ml and from 0.620 to 2.830 mg/ml respectively. Also, the concentrations of total carbohydrate and protein were greater in animals from 5 m depth than those from 2 m. Total and reducing carbohydrate were the components most affected by parasitism. The greatest effect on total carbohydrate concentration was detected in mussels affected by the parasites Mytilicola intestinalis and Marteilia refringens, which presented lower values in infected mussels than in noninfected ones, mainly in the summer months,

A comparison of growth and biochemical composition Mytilus galloprovincialis (Lmk.) and Mytilus edulis (L.) on the West coast of Cotentin, Normandy, France 1999-2000
The blue mussel, Mytilus edulis has been reared along the Normandy coast line since the 1960s. The gonadal cycle of this mussel species shows a sharp decrease in meat quality during the winter period after spawning. This decline in meat quality is so severe that sales have to be suspended from December to July. Another species of mussel, Mytilus galloprovincialis, which is reared in the lagoons...

متن کاملGenetics and taxonomy of Chilean smooth-shelled mussels, Mytilus spp. (Bivalvia: Mytilidae).
It has been previously established that native smooth-shelled mussels in southern South America possess close evolutionary affinities with Northern-Hemisphere Mytilus edulis L. 1758 (McDonald et al. (1991) [5]). This result has since been challenged by authors claiming that Chilean mussels should be considered a local subspecies of M. galloprovincialis Lmk. 1819. Moreover, morphological, physio...

Mytilus galloprovincialis is one of three smooth shelled blue mussel species belonging to the Mytilus edulis species complex. Naturally occurring and introduced populations of M. galloprovincialis are widely distributed throughout many regions of the globe. Mytilus galloprovincialis includes morphologically indistinguishable Northern and Southern hemisphere mtDNA lineages that have been separat...

The base-line frequency of micronucleated cells was measured in g111 tissue of Mytilus ga l loprov~nc~ahs Lmk. from 2 ~Mediterranean areas (northern Tyrrhenian and northern Adriatic Seas), and turned out to be a function of water temperature and age of the animals.
